On New Year's day 2017, the fourth season of the international hit "SHERLOCK HOLMES" will premiere. Although only 10 episodes have been telecasted till now with 3 seasons and a special episode 'The abominable bride', still it has gained a huge popularity all over the world.

Here are some facts about Sherlock Holmes from the book and the show:

1) When Sherlock showrunners began casting the show, there was only one choice of actor for Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch. Steven Moffat was highly impressed by Benedict's performance in the film Atonement.

2) The show is a hit all over the world. In America,  every episode gets an average of 8 million viewers.

This show is banned in China because you know, its 'China' but still it has a huge popularity over there with a total of 69 million viewers. 

In fact, when British prime minister David Cameron visited China and people were allowed to submit questions, the biggest number of requests were for him to make the Sherlock team hurry up and release the new seasons.

3) According to John Radford, if Sherlock Holmes was a real person, he would have had an IQ of 190.

An IQ between 90 and 110 is considered to be normal. Also, Stephen Hawking has an IQ of 160.

4) Sherlock Holmes is the only fictional character to be awarded membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Infact, a real Dr. John Watson, a fellow of the royal society was present over there.

5)  In the books, Sherlock Holmes used cocaine

to sharpen his focus. But in the 19th century when the character was created, it was considered as a popular substance in medical industry. It was recommended as a treatment for coughs and cold.

6) Sherlock Holmes used a lot of detective techniques way before they were used in real world.

For example, he used finger prints to track a suspect in 1890, while finger prints were not used by the British Police force until 1901.

7) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle decided to kill the detective in the 1891 story, 'The Final Problem".

The decision did not go well with the fans and they wrote many letters and protested on streets. So he revived Holmes in 'The Adventure of the Empty House'. 

Also, the last episode of the 4th Season is named as 'The Final Problem'. So lets hope they don't end this series by killing him.  *Fingers crossed*
